Jackson Hogg Procurement division are pleased to be partnering with a growing manufacturing organisation in Billingham on the appointment of a Buyer to join their purchasing team. This role is full time and permanent and can offer up to £35k.
Reporting into the Head of Procurement, the Buyer will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient and cost-effective purchasing solution for the business. Key responsibilities are the processing of purchase orders for the business, sourcing activities, supplier onboarding, supplier relationship management, inventory management and supporting the procurement department with regards to indirect and direct material supply.

This is an on site role with working hours of Monday to Friday 07:30-16:00 or 08:00-16:30.
The Role:
- As Buyer, you will be responsible for the direct and indirect strategic sourcing for manufacturing operations, production materials, operational services, projects, and general consumable items as designated.
- Accurate forecasting and monitoring stock levels, including meeting the varying demands of production.
- Working closely with external suppliers and internal manufacturing project teams, balancing challenges of internal team and external customers to achieve quality, timescales, and cost effectiveness from suppliers.
- Negotiating delivery timetables with supplier based within the UK, Europe, and China. Focusing on the ability to balance and meet conflicting needs and requirements.
- Support cross functional business objectives and key initiatives.
- Ownership of cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the implementation of new ERP system.
- Assist with the development of procurement processes and procedures to reduce and eliminate non-value add activities.
- Management of supplier day to day issues and core activity streams; price negotiation, continuity of supply, quality non-conformance, problem & dispute resolutions.
- Conduct new supplier searches. Identify capability and service according to business requirements, tender process, analysis, and supplier selection.
- Monitor market conditions (price movement, availability, trends etc), to support strategic sourcing plan, price negotiations and continuity of supply.
- Conduct regular reviews with internal stakeholders and maintain strong working relationships.
Person Specification:
- At least 2-3 years' purchasing experience, ideally working within manufacturing or engineering environment
- Experience of working with cross functional teams and suppliers
- Able to demonstrate cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong negotiation skills
